I expect my experience at imagine1day to be as personally fulfilling as it is to the organization. I feel that my role as an intern will be bi-directional--providing imagine1day with help and support in its various projects while showing me an invaluable glimpse into the world of NGOs and their international work.
Traveling and experiencing new places has always fascinated me. Meeting new people and exploring new geographic spaces moves me in an unexplainable way. Seeing new communities and cultures first hand allows me to change my perspective on life.
I expect to learn how a lot about the intricacies of NGOs as well as future development in the third world. This will hopefully give me a grounding in innovative sustainable development for potential future projects.
I feel that imagine1day's approach to development and poverty alleviation is unparalleled in its innovation and ongoing progress in community building. The fact that the organization aims to provide Ethiopians with the tools necessary to provide for themselves, rather than supply them with temporary support, allows communities to grow and stay self-sufficient in the long-run. This, I feel, is the most effective and progressive approach to poverty alleviation.
CreatributionTM is a novel idea to me. I did not realize that donating and funding charity projects could be such a dynamic process. Moreover, discovering the concept of CreatributionTM changed my perspective on the (seemingly) unidirectional process of donation. imagine1day's unique interaction with its contributors made me realize that there are many interesting ways to entice funding for development projects.
For me, imagine1day stood out from every other NGO. It seemed exciting, innovative, and hands-on. I feel that its focus on sustainability, rather than emergency relief funding, is more efficient in terms of long-term investment in third world development. Moreover, the concept of CreatributionTM is exceptionally unique in its approach to donation and community building--wherever that community may be.
