SHIFTED is a showcase of 5 diverse speakers telling refreshing accounts of defeat, victory and the choices made in between. They will share stories of challenge, failure and how they became the successful people they are today. SHIFTED exposes the opportunities created from difficult setbacks and events that result in a shift in someone’s life. This event creates the opportunity for people to think about challenge in a new way and be inspired, while supporting imagine1day and educational efforts in Ethiopia. As a result of the learning and development shift that occurs in Vancouver, an educational shift will occur in Ethiopia. Together, we will make shift happen.

The challenge is not only on the day but it's about the impact we can make as a community through FUNdraising!

The Yoga Aid Challenge takes place in 12 countries across the world and almost 100 locations. The Challenge is a large scale, 2 hour yoga practice for which we encourage participants to engage in personal fundraising for charity. The event has so far raised over $700 000 worldwide for twenty different organizations, ranging from grassroots community projects to well established large charities.

It’s free to register. Just bring yourself, your mat, your friends and your awesomeness for what will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of Yoga Aid’s global calendar.

Sep 23 (All day)
Date: Thursday, September 23, 2010 (All day)
Location:
Ethiopia

Hosted by imagine1day's founder Shannon Wilson, Executive Director Sapna Dayal, Ethiopian adventure expert Majka Burhardt, and lululemon athletica's Director of Possibility, Susanne Conrad. Four women of diverse backgrounds transporting you to the heart of humanity's ancient roots to imagine, create and contribute to a new future for a nation of children.

Be Challenged and Inspired: Hike, bike, climb and joy ride through Northern Ethiopia's awe inspiring sandstone mountain ranges.

At the Giving and Receiving End: Participate and create with imagine1day's Ethiopian team, visit with the wonderful children in the region of Tigray and be touched by their presence and smiles.

Celebrate Life: Experience historical landmarks and open your heart through conversation and movement. As a group we will break bread, explore, dance and participate in the deep culture of sacred places. Travel far and find your way home.

Highlights of our trip will include projects that we carry out in service of imagine1day's schools, a unique weekend in a remote rural community, guided outdoor excursions, and a visit to Lalibela's rock hewn churches. Accommodation will be based at the beautiful Gheralta Lodge in Hawzien, Tigray where we will connect each day in reflection of our discoveries.

Fuelled by your personal passions and a nation's vision to educate all of their children, you are asked to raise CDN$6,667 to fund the cost of a primary school project for a remote rural community in Ethiopia's Tigray Region. Together our Creatributions will generate CDN$100,000 September 15, 2010.

SWAP! for new fall threads

SWAP! to meet cool new chicks

SWAP! to ensure every Ethiopian receives a quality education funded free of foreign aid by 2030.

What is a clothing swap?

We’ve all heard the saying – one person’s throw away is another person’s treasure. A clothing swap allows you to meet the person who will be next to wear that beloved sequenced dress and experience their immense gratitude and excitement to carry on its legacy!

What’s different about SWAP!NYC?

SWAP!NYC is a CreatributionTM, a fundraising project leveraging the creator’s passions and unique talents so they can contribute to imagine1day - a growing global community of people making passionate contributions to ensure every Ethiopian receives a quality education funded free of foreign aid by 2030.

In this case, the project is being led by Julie Ball, who is passionate about connecting and meeting cool women in New York City and loves clothes – especially when they’re almost free. One hundred percent of SWAP!NYC’s ticket sales will go directly to imagine1day (less a small rental fee for the venue).

imagine1day is changing the paradigm of charity. All administrative costs are covered by a generous endowment provided by Chip and Shannon Wilson (the founders of lululemon athletica) so that 100% of all contributions go directly to the school projects in Ethiopia. The projects are chosen on the basis of providing the most long term benefit for the least investment. imagine1day does not just benefit Ethiopia: it empowers its contributors. It is a forum where people can combine their passions and talents with an opportunity to make a difference in the world.

Where: ConArtist

119 Ludlow Street Basement

www.conartistnyc.com

When: Sunday September 26th

Time: 12pm – 6pm

Entry fee: $35 (click here to purchase your tickets http://swapnyc.eventbrite. com/)

**100% of ticket sales will be donated to imagine1day less the cost of the venue.

Included in your entry fee:

* Unlimited access to other people’s stuff (i.e. swap til' you drop!)

* Wine and light snacks

* A chance to network with cool women like you living and loving life in NYC

Ground rules:

* Items must be clean and wearable and be something you know someone else would love to score!

* You can bring shoes, accessories, and clothing

* Maximum donation is 2 laundry size bags per person - minimum is one re-usuable shopping bag size.

How it works:

* New clothing will be put out all day long, so there is no bad time to come

* SWAP! merchandisers will be on site to keep everything organized and restocked all day long!

* Transport your goods using your own re-usable shopping bags – no bags will be provided at the event

* All clothing left over will be donated to a local charity or be recycled

* Can’t be there in person? You can still pay your entry fee to support imagine1day and drop off your clothes – then we’ll swap them for you!
