Friday, May 20, 2011WELCOME TO ABADA: 19 YEARS AND ONE DREAM AGO
Almost 19 years ago, the community of Abada in Northern Ethiopia built a school with their own hands and with little outside assistance. Sitting on the border of two districts, the closest schools to Abada were three and a half hour walks away from the community in opposite directions. No girls from Abada made the journey, as their parents did not want to expose them to the physical demands and the dangers along the way. A few boys went, but often dropped out because of the enormous amount of time they spent walking to and from school every day.
