Building Quality Classrooms in 2009

A Story About Building Quality Classrooms in 2009
In village schools across the Hintalo Wejirat district of Northern Ethiopia, children learn in bare classrooms, equipped with little more than a small blackboard held up by the teacher. Packed tightly together on uncomfortable seats, they squint to see their daily lessons and do their best to absorb the material. But it’s hard to learn without books, paper or materials.
In December 2007 imagine1day provided the schools in Hintalo Wejirat with new desks, tables, chairs and shelving units. In December 2008, Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) were trained to steward the schools into the future. And by December 31, 2009, 27 schools in Hintalo Wejirat will have the resources, interactive learning aids and teacher training to spark the imagination and the learning of 10,000 children. Now the Quality Classroom Project that was undertaken in 2008 will expand to 16 additional schools.
