A Story About Building                         Quality Classrooms in 2010

Were you a sports day lover or a science fair fan? Was your recess spent in the library or with the creative writing club? In 2010, the quality of education received by over 10,000 children attending 29 schools was enhanced through teacher training in Active Learning methodologies and science kits, sports materials, art supplies, books, writing materials, and extra-curricular school club programs. Today, young Ethiopian children are experiencing a diverse and inspiring education.

Goals

  • Equip 29 schools in the Hintalo Wejirat district with learning materials and programs.
  • Provide sports materials, such as volleyballs, soccer balls, jumping ropes, posts and nets.
  • Fill reading corners with math, science, history and English books, as well as reference materials and culturally relevant fiction.
  • Equip science classes with kits from government approved suppliers and provide teachers with training and manuals.
  • Support creative writing programs with pens, pencils and paper.
  • Form school clubs that help students build leadership and life skills.
  • Introduced art into the classroom using local materials and traditions.
  • Train teachers in student-centered teaching approaches and life skills and support them with local materials.
