Wednesday, February 17, 2010A NEW ERA HAS BEGUN FOR THIS COMMITTED COMMUNITY
Situated just west of a mountain range that forms the geological border to the Afar desert region, Gerambero, on the Tigray side, bares the same characteristics of a very hot, arid climate. The nearest road accessible by vehicle is a twisty three-hour hike away, dotted with little else than cacti, some small shrubs and the few goats munching on them. How does one build a school in such a remote, unforgiving place? The answer is a bit of creativity, a lot of resourcefulness and not one, but many dedicated people. We invite you to meet some of these people and learn what your partnership across the ocean and into the farthest forgotten stretches of the earth means to them.
