A Story from Kilte Awelalo

The Government of Canada, through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), identified children and youth as a priority area of focus for Canadian international assistance. Children, particularly girls, are among the most vulnerable persons in developing countries. Canada's international assistance aims to achieve concrete results in the lives of people in developing countries to make a lasting impact when aid is more effective, focused and accountable.  At varying levels of implementation imagine1day, in partnership with the Kilte Awelalo District Education Office, has committed to working with 58 communities in the Kilte Awelalo District.  In four communities the activities include school, water and latrine construction, provision of supplies and teaching aids, capacity building of teachers, principals and the PTAs, as well as support in establishing income generating activities to sustain the schools.  In 17 of the 58 communities next in line of priority, the capacity building and income generation program activities will be implemented.   In the remaining 37 schools, only the capacity building program activities will be implemented.  Commencing in 2011, this three-year project will directly benefit 28,497 children, 464 teachers, 58 school principals, 292 Parent Teacher Association members, and 400 households.
